Shrimp
Some shrimp lovers are lucky enough to live nearby the
waters where shrimp is caught and sold. Most people, however, need to
buy their shrimp farther away from the shore. Those who shop for shrimp
in grocery stores away from the shore should remember a few things.
• Buy frozen – Even if the shrimp on display in the grocery
store does not appear to be frozen, it is likely that it once was frozen
and has simply been thawed out to be put on display. The shelf life
of thawed shrimp is only a couple of days so make sure you do not buy
shrimp that has been sitting out for too long.
• Avoid peeled shrimp – If possible, it is best to avoid
buying shrimp that has been peeled and deveined before it was frozen.
This could result in a loss of flavor and texture.
• Defrost properly – For best results, shrimp should be
defrosted the refrigerator or the sink. Do not defrost in a warm place
or in the microwave.
Following these guidelines can help shrimp lovers get the most out of
their meals.
