Rock Lobster
Rock lobster is not the lobster that generally comes to mind when eating comes up. These creatures resemble lobsters in some ways, but they lack the large claws. They are also called spiny lobsters.
While rock lobsters are eaten regularly, they don’t have the same flavor as American Lobsters. They come from warmer climates that the American Lobsters, and are a major export of many warm-weather islands. Many people debate which kind of “lobster” is better, but this is a difficult argument because spiny lobsters and Maine lobsters are generally used in very different recipes, so it is hard to compare the two.
The only way for you to decide whether you like rock lobster is to try it. There are many ways you can prepare it, and even though there are different species of them that are regularly imported, the can generally be viewed as the same from a culinary standpoint.
