Lobster Pot

If you are going to cook your own live lobster at home, you will want to have a nice lobster pot on hand. There are some really fancy sets out there that can make your lobster cooking experience easier, but all you really need is a sturdy pot that is big enough for the lobster. If you look around a little you’ll find some at great prices.

Getting a pot that is at least 16 quarts is generally recommended to ensure that there is enough room for the lobster to cook properly. If you can get a larger lobster pot it will enable you to cook more than one at a time, which is always good. Some pots are very tall, and actually come with baskets in them. This is so the lobster, crab, or oysters can be held above the boiling water. They are steamed nicely and the risk of overcooking is lessened.

Different lobster pots will serve different purposes. If you just want a pot to boil them in, there are plenty of those that you can get. If you want one that also offers the option of steaming the lobster, those are also available. If you have a glass top stove, make sure that the pot you get will work on it.
