Standing at the grocery store and looking at all the halibut, shrimp, lobsters and crab can sometimes be daunting if you do not know much about any of these items. Halibut is a popular fish that is fairly inexpensive. Here is some information about halibut that you may not know:

• Taste and texture – Halibut is a white meat that has a mild and slightly sweet flavor to it. It also has a fine and firm texture.

• How it’s sold – Halibut can be sold and purchased in a variety of ways. The way you purchase it might depend on what you plan to do with it after you bring it home. Halibut can be sold in steaks, fillets or whole.

• Best prepared – Even though there are a variety of ways that halibut feasibly could be prepared, most people seem to agree that the best way to prepare this seafood is to grill, steam, sautee, bake or broil it with the skin left on.
